Week 3 – 1. Fairy Tale

This is “Oor Wullie” – A comic character from my childhood. Not quite a fairy tale but something of a legend in Dundee where I was born. Dundee is famous or was famous for 3 “J”s- Jam, Jute and Journalism. Oor Wullie was part of the “Sunday Post” where he featured in a comic strip sitting on a bucket. He was so popular with the local kids that there was an Annual book printed of his antics, usually featured in my Christmas stocking.

We visited my relatives a few weeks ago and this statue of Oor Wullie was on the harbour in Broughty Ferry where I was brought up. There was a fund raising event going on when we were there and there were statues all over Dundee which you had to visit and photograph. The event was in aid of a Children’s Hospital. We spotted a few on our travels. This one was donated by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. The lifeboat is stationed nearby. We had glorious weather and spent some great time walking along the beach. I was so lucky to have such freedom and space to grow up. I miss the seaside still.

Week 52 – 17. Gate

This is the gate to the premises we use for our Camera Club meetings. It is all locked up for the summer. I thought it was appropriate as this is my last submission for the 2015/2016 Photo-a-Week.

Thank you everyone for the entertainment of seeing and admiring the  entries over the weeks. You are all such gifted photographers and I am honoured to be in the same group with you.

I apologise for my lateness on occasions. Life is not being very kind to us at the moment but I am so blessed to have such a hobby to give me hope and sanity. I can forget about our troubles when I am behind the lens.

Looking forward to another year. I will try to keep up this year!
